Welcome to Support Within Reach!
Formerly, Itasca Alliance Against Sexual Assault (IAASA) and Sexual Assault Program of Beltrami, Cass, and Hubbard Counties (SAP)
Our Mission:  To reduce the impact and harm of sexual violence for families and individuals in the communities we serve.
Have you or someone you know experienced sexual violence?
Sexual violence is defined as any unwanted sexual contact.  It includes child sexual abuse, date rape, incest, marital/spousal rape, same gender assault, sexual harassment, internet-related sexual crimes, and any other unwelcome sexual contact.  It also includes incomplete acts that threaten or humiliate an individual.  These crimes are founded on the abuser's/offender's need to exercise power and control over someone they perceive as vulnerable.  Sexual violence can happen to anyone.
We're Here to Help!
SWR exists for those who have felt the impact of sexual violence in their lives.  We carry out our mission with hope, utilizing these guiding principles:
  • Provide trained advocates for survivors.
  • Offer prevention education to aid in the protection of women, children, and men from sexual violence.
  • Assure that survivors of sexual violence are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Empower individuals and communities through information, knowledge, and the services available to survivors and those who care about them.
SWR works to create a society that is free of violence through leadership, action, and mentoring that is responsive to the needs of the community we serve.  We believe that sexism, racism, homophobia, classism, and oppression of people with disabilities, religious oppression, and ageism are among the root causes of violence.
Through our cooperative work, SWR is committed to challenging practices, policies, and institutions, which promote systems of oppression.  We develop and nurture relationships with collaborating agencies allowing us to understand their role within the system along with their strengths and limitations.  As a result, we are better able to assist our clients in navigating complex systems which would otherwise inhibit their understanding and healing.

SWR's funding is provided by:  Minnesota Office of Justice Programs, Violence Against Women Act, Victims of

Crime Act, United Way of 1000 Lakes, United Way of NE Minnesota, Blandin Foundation, Grand Rapids Area

Community Foundation, Otto Bremer Foundation, and generous donations from those who support our cause.
